The USCG requires Leonardo SpA, Aircraft Division (LAD) technical and engineering services to support design, installation, testing, and certification of the missionized C-27J aircraft. The C-27J is a medium size military transport aircraft manufactured by LAD, which is the C-27J Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). The USCG has 14 C-27J aircraft. The USCG is installing 19 subsystems, including sensors and radios on their C-27J aircraft (missionization). For this effort, the USCG has entered into an interagency agreement U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (AIR-5.0X AIRWorks) to be the lead system integrator (LSI). As the LSI, AIRWorks has established contractual agreements with LAD for OEM-specific technical data, engineering services, and aircraft installation kits for the new mission systems. With LSI and OEM support, the USCG will also provide the necessary flight clearances. While AIRWorks missionize the C-27J aircraft, the USCG requires on-site OEM technical / engineering expertise to support its requirements.2.
